The most challenging part of the year is when I leave my house and my hermit ways to spend 8 weeks "home" with my kids for the summer. I have my space, but I don't have my regular food stores, schedule, or kitchen stuff. (It's amazing how much not having your own kitchen stuff impacts your interest in cooking!)

Add to that 5 nights a week socializing and it's always been a recipe for disaster for my health.

This year I made two big changes. 1. I bought a treadmill/walking desk to keep out here and 2. I started really watching my carbs per meal.

The real benefit to #1 is that I get to get my movement in while I'm working. (I've actually gotten to the point where 10 miles of walking is an average day!) And the benefit to #2 is that I have a very narrow focus for my food so I get to make all my choices based on a 3 hour window. Does whatever I want to eat fit into my carb allowance? Yes, go for it. No, eat less or not at all.

And so far, so good, I think. I don't have a scale here, but I've stepped on my Mom's and it looks like I'm continuing my slow and steady trend down.

And overall I am feeling pretty great, lots of energy and enjoying my extended family and friends. I do miss my own bed and my tobiko (who knew it would be so hard to find!) and snuggling with my husband. But I'll be home in 3 weeks, so that's exciting.
