Starting out again

Friday, July 29, 2016

I am finally healing up from the emergency gall bladder surgery I had on July 7th. The gall stone was near as big as a golf ball, it was blocking the duct, and the whole thing was massively infected. So I went into the ER (after suffering for various degrees for months and months not knowing what it was) and then directly in queue for surgery and out it all came.

The gall stone was too big for lap so they had to cut a bit more. So all of the GI problems I have been having that I attributed to flu, food poisoning, the Drs diet, and etc may in part be due to this whole gall bladder issue.

So what are the pros and cons of the whole thing -

Con - wish I had known this sooner as I think I may have been suffering with this for over a year looking back on it all.

Pro - I feel much better especially after the two strong IV antibiotics to clear up the infection. Also, now I can diet without the OMG I can't lose weight to fast as it might bring on gall bladder problems.

Another issue which I am all pffffft over. Is I am having lower right quadrant pain. Too lower to be gall bladder. So is it left over from the surgery and will slowly go away or with my rotten luck to I also have an appendix issue that I could not feel before due to the massive gall bladder pain. I asked the surgeon and he said give it 4 weeks and then we will have to see.

So I am starting out again. Not a pound lost since the Cardiologist gave me the what for at our last appointment and said you better lose something before our August appointment. I am thinking about rescheduling and just telling them about the gall bladder as I would rather give it a couple of extra months for me to loose some weight than go in and listen to him grump at me while I am still healing from surgery.

So I am going to go on a 1200 to 1300 calorie diet with one day a week being 1500 for right now for a couple of weeks. It is not starvation low and is about the same calorie as the cardiologist put me on and well it is not going to give me gall bladder issues :P.

If I sound all grumpy I am as it is has been a rough 5 years with Mom being sick, me run over by semi truck and broke into pieces, 4 back dislocations, and now gall bladder.

I will try to blog once a week and hopefully at least some of the weeks I will not be grumpy.

Wow. You've had such a rough time of it. The fact that you haven't given up on the whole weight loss journey speaks volumes about your strength....and you're not alone in the struggles. My journey here has been an 8-year odyssey of calamities as well, and I can say that sticking with it means everything. Finally this past year has allowed me to do what I came here to do, and I'm currently almost 100 lbs. down in weight.

Just focus on simple meals of protein, good fats and vegetables and you'll do fine... and drop into the Paleo team for support and encouragement!

    You've got this!

P.S. A really great book just out is The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung (Canadian nephrologist)... it's changes my life. I you can't get the book, check out Dr. Fung's blog: Intensive Dietary Management. Best thing I ever did for myself.

You got this. Be good to yourself. The mind is a tricky thing and will pull us down. You've been through a lot. Allow yourself time to heal and get back to things slowly. One day at a time.
