What happens when I (or you) binge on sugar

I've been making excellent progress on being dairy-free (haven't had cheese in weeks). I've also been making (slow) progress in increasing my water intake, and my new observation is that to get enough water in, it's a really good idea for me to start drinking water right away in the morning.

I've been making pretty good progress on becoming sugar free -- and in fact, keeping my fructose (from fruit) under 15 g per day -- but that sugar demon is hard to kick.

Things I'm noticing: I'm much more likely to want to over-eat (in general) when I've been on track for a number of days in a row. Seems like I need to allow a bit of a an uptick in food intake after a couple of days of being in the 1,300 calorie range. Say -- allow for 1,800 or so -- rather than saying "f*** it,* I'm gonna eat whatever I want."

I'm also noticing (again) that stress is a big trigger. Had a somewhat stressful interaction with a student and watched myself make a conscious decision to jump into sugar-ville. I told myself that I'd feel better. Of course, the opposite was true. I enjoyed the first bites, and then I started to feel groggy, foggy, and tired...which made me rush in the opposite direction for caffeine. In the end, I had upset my innards and felt nauseous for hours that evening.

It's a nasty domino effect on your brain, endocrine, digestive, and immune systems.

The good news is that I have been managing to steadily improve my habits, and I'm committed to being on track.

I'm going on holiday next week, and have decided to bring my tablet (computer) and a notebook (paper) to track one way or the other.

    I've been sugar free for over 3 years now. It's not easy to avoid that is for sure, but I usually eat at home so it's do-able. I feel so much better now I'm sugar free. My mood swings and depression have vastly improved and my outlook on life has changed for the better. I definitely have an on-going issue with candida - a yeast overgrowth.

    Yeah, there is not one redeeming thing that can be said for sugar, is there...? Totally pointless, needless chemical whose only purpose, as far as I'm concerned, is to HOOK us all into sugar crack-hood and to keep supporting Food Corporations with our hard-earned dollars!

    Kudos to your progress! I'm a huge fan of starting every day with two tall tumblers of water and keeping up the hydration until early evening when I back off so I can get a good night's sleep. ;-)
