My New Journey

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease, Fibromyalgia, and Rosacea. My doctor started me on thyroid meds, which really helped with my energy level. She also suggested that I change my diet and start exercising. I knew I needed to make a change, but I wasn't in the right frame of mind to do it, and I was in pain. I even needed to get a handicap tag for my car. That's how bad it was.
I had been doing my research about my latest diagnosis, and found that a lot of people were having success with AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) and Paleo. I also discovered that some of my additional symptoms seemed to point to Candida overgrowth and leaky gut. I know some doctors don't believe this is a real thing, but I have been dealing with yeast infections on multiple areas (TMI warning!), like in the crease of my neck, under my boobs, behind one knee, and occasionally a vaginal yeast infection. Guess what. AIP and Paleo also helped these symptoms. So, I decided to give Paelo a try. I armed myself with tons of recipes on Pinterest, and set a start date of August 21st.
Within 3 days of starting Paleo, I noticed a huge change. I was actually able to sleep a full 8 hours, and wake up with zero back pain. It was a-maz-ing. I also noticed that my energy level had increased, and my brain fog was so much better. I knew then, it was time to start adding in exercise. I started by walking for 15 minutes. Once I got used to that, I started walking 30 minutes. My pain level continued to decrease and my energy level increased even more. It was then that I knew Paleo was working. All of the times that I had to turn away bad foods and carbs was worth it. It’s still not easy at times, but I don’t want to sacrifice the way I feel for a few minutes of pleasure eating that delicious donut that a co-worker brought in from my favorite bakery.
As for the other symptoms I talked about, they are getting better as well. The spot on the back of my knee and in the crease of my neck have cleared up, and the area under my boobs is getting better. Oh, and I almost forgot. My Rosacea is gone. Like, completely gone.
For the first time in a long time, I feel hopeful. I feel like I can actually lose this weight and be healthy. One of my main goals is to be able to go to the local amusement park and fit in the seats for any ride I want to ride. That will be an amazing feeling. I don’t know if I will be able to do that before fall is over this year, but if not, next year it’s on baby!
