Results from my Physical

Tuesday, September 27, 2016

I just got back the results from blood work from a physical a couple of months ago. I don't mind sharing the result with you all. When I first started Low Carb dieting, it was really hard to wrap my mind around eating fewer carbs and more fat. I had been raised during an era where we were told that fats will increase risks of heart attacks and kill you. I seriously thought I had a panic attack the first time I started eating whole milk cottage cheese!

After more than 5 years of low carb dieting (mostly low grain, low starch, and no sugar), and eating high quality fats (avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, real butter, whole milk yogurt, nuts, whole eggs, salmon, etc), I can show you proof that I am not killing myself. In fact, I am at low risk of developing many metabolic syndrome diseases that start creeping in at my age in the 40s.

LDL: 99 mg/dL (optimal)
HDL: 90 mg/dL (optimal)
Trig: 65 mg/dL (normal)

Total Cholesterol/HDL ratio is: 2.23 - (preferably under 5.0, ideally under 3.5) IDEAL
LDL/HDL ratio is: 1.1 - (preferably under 5.0, ideally under 2.0) IDEAL
Triglycerides/HDL ratio is: 0.722 - (preferably under 4, ideally under 2) IDEAL

I LOVE that you share your results. It is so great! I have been reading so much about what a lie we have been told about eating low fat high carb diets. I just read in "Why We Get Fat, and What to Do About It" by Gary Taubes, that high HDL is the best protection against heart attack, and is used as an indicator of the # of carbs in the diet. The higher the HDL, the lower the carbs. Getting blood test results to confirm the theory is AWESOME, and your results are especially awesome. Congrats!!

I think that's the hardest part of switching to a low carb diet - getting in all the fat!

    Congratulations on the blood work!

LOL, I know, I feel soo much the same!
I was making a salad tonight, and intentionally put back the low fat cheese and got out the full fat feta behind it.
It's actually been hard hitting my fat macro goals a lot of days, because I have been trained for so many years to reduce it as much as possible, so it's just habit.

    Great scores.

Agree completely with your plan and my labs are back to where they were 10 years ago. No longer in the risk zone.
