Husband's Discectomy Surgery

Saturday, October 01, 2016

My husband had his surgery on Thursday morning and it went well. We had to be there bright and early for pre-op lab work and prep. They took him back between 7:30 and 8:00 am and started surgery at approximately 8:04. He came out and went to recovery at around 9:47. It took longer than anticipated because they said the disc was starting to calcify which made the job of removing it and little more difficult, but overall they are claiming the surgery a success. He was in recovery for about an hour before they brought him back to the room I was waiting in. He then sat with me in the hospital room for roughly another 40 minutes before finally needing to use the restroom which was a requirement before being able to be released to come home. Once he did this, they checked his vitals again and let him get dressed, gave us post-op instructions, and sent us on our way.

He is doing amazingly well. He says he feels well and has some tingling in his leg occasionally, but can tell some difference already. I assume the tingling in his leg must be the nerve trying to heal and possibly come back to life from all the pressure of the disc the last 4+ months.

Thanks SO much for all your thoughts and I apologize to those of you that I didn't make it to your pages to say thanks for commenting on my last blog. Life has been a circus the last couple of months. Hopefully now, it will slow down and return to a normal pace again.
