Today is a Green Light Day!

Today I start with a clean slate and one goal: To make it through a full day on my weight loss program.

For years now, I created rules (excuses) that got in the way of my goals. One of those was that I could only get going on a diet if it was a Monday. If Monday didn't turn out as planned, then I would blow it all week until the next Monday came! Of course, I gained a lot of weight in that week and I rarely got started again on the next Monday either.

I have always known and believed that eating more than I should on a particular day was not really the problem for me. The problem has been that I find it so difficult to get back on track afterwards. I have developed an all or nothing attitude and lost the ability to appreciate my success during the day if it was not a perfect day. I could go all day long eating properly, exercising, drinking water, etc. and then overeat just before bedtime and declare it a Bad Day.

The author of the book "100 Days of Motivation" states that we should understand that the road to weight loss is not always a narrow one. It helps to look at the process as a series of lights. For example, if every day was like today would you lose weight? If so, it's a green light day. If every day was like today and you would maintain your current weight, it's a yellow day. If every day was like today and you would gain weight, it's a red day. By looking at it this way, you will see that eating a little more than you should or not getting your exercise in is not the end of the world. You just work to have mostly green days, some yellow days, and rare red days.

To break my chain, I am starting over on a Wednesday and I am going to try to have a Green Day. I hope it's the first of many to come.
