I don't work Wednesdays so I went with my dad and cousin (more like sister, not by blood, but by love) to see Jenny down at The James. She seemed in good spirits, but got hangry. She had to fast after midnight. She had dinner at 6:30 and a light snack at 10 p.m. Then fasting for her cenral line insertion procedure. Her procedure time came and went several times. They have to take emergent cases first. So finally after almost 24 hours of fasting (and no water) she was able to have her procedure. It went well. She also had an ultrasound of her heart, that went well too. Tomorrow she will learn more about her specific type of AML and what genetic markers it has as well as what to expect from treatment. We know she will need chemotherapy but aren't sure how many rounds or anything like that. They told her she will lose her hair, probably in about 3-4 weeks. So she's going to get a funky new do and some outrageous colors she's always wanted to try.
When she got out of her procedure they told her they had to change her rooms (hers is a negative pressure room and they needed it for an incoming isolation patient). She shouldn't have to move again. That made her anxious because she had her stuff in there, and some precious things from home, but the nurses took care and moved it all very carefully. This room is slightly larger with more seats for visitors. Overall I think today was just emotionally exhausting because she couldn't eat or drink anything. She was just over it.
We just hung out with her all day, visiting, trying to chat about things other than her diagnosis and treatment (because that's dominating conversations right now). We shared a lot of dog/cat videos.
Then when she went down for her procedure, we went to eat (she was expected to be gone for a few hours and then come back groggy, so it was the best time to make the two hour drive home).
I got a parking ticket during dinner. So that was fun.
I did NOT see the sign that said "permit parking". Also, permit parking on a public street really sucks.
Anyway, I get to go for a visit again Sunday and this one should be a little more chill. We'll see.
