My newest piece of exercise equipment

Monday, November 21, 2016

For those of us that live downwind of any of the Great Lakes we knew we would pay a price for our warm summer which left the lakes at or near record-setting high temperatures going into fall/winter. Then our dear neighbors to the north share a bit of their cold winds and... Voila! We get big snow totals. Will let you know what the official measurements sound like later but I think we got a foot already with another foot forecast before it quits tomorrow morning. I would take a photo but just imagine white

I have a long driveway which joins two others at the end for the last 15 or so feet. Contract plowing is pretty much a must. However there's enough of the white stuff left for me to move with my newest piece of exercise equipment - a new snow shovel! Took me a few tries to find the one I wanted which is all-plastic. I have one with a steel-edge but it's heavier and leaves marks on my stone sidewalk. So far I have shoveled the walk from my sidedoor to the driveway four times plus shoveling a path for the dogs and in front of the garage door where the plow can't reach. Yup - that's exercise - cardio and strength combined. Of course, Riley (the older one) is so set on our morning walk that we ventured over to the entrance to the path as usual. He considered climbing over the snow piled up by the plow but decided to turn around and take me down the street in search of an alternative. We like walking down the middle of the road and leaving our footprints where no one else has been yet.

For those who are waiting to see how my rug saga turns out... I left several messages for the installer who finally called me back early this morning. Apparently he had another reason to be out this way so I'm not feeling quite so guilty for making him drive in this weather. Hopefully he will arrive safely in another hour or two. After a few more hours of sitting in the kitchen with the dogs and I will burst into action getting my holiday preparations underway.

It is good exercise, but it gets old really fast. Glad you and the pups are ok there.

I can just visualize! We also have a long driveway but my husband bought a pretty big snow blower a few years back. If not for that, we would have to get a professional plow to come through. Shoveling snow is an excellent exercise, I don't have to do it much but I actually enjoy it. I have a little area outside where I sit while Daisy explores the yard - I do have to shovel it off if we've had overnight snow. Quite a feeling of accomplishment for me!

Daisy and I had our first walk yesterday since it rained / snowed on Friday. She was so happy. But there are patches of ice left on the roads and on the path - which makes it challenging to say the least. But the walk yesterday was great!

Good luck with your snow and your new exercise! We only got 3-4" so far but more is coming overnight tonight.

Where are you. I love the snow. We got a tiny bit. Not enough to cover the ground in central Michigan.
