Puppy + snow... what was he thinking???

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

So most of you know I rescued a cute little cock-a-poo puppy a little over a month ago. He's now 5mo - more or less. We've had such a beautiful fall that he and I have both been spoiled on our many, many trips throughout the day to our potty area as well as a nice walk in tandem with big brother my 4yo dog - Riley.

Yesterday brought us our first snow of the season. It measured in feet. (fyi - What you saw on the national news wasn't filmed from the thick of it. Why is it they stay on the periphery and call it "news"?? )

The hilarity started Sunday evening when the snow started to actually accumulate. Puppy Brody bounced around like he was on a pogo stick. Cute very cute.

Fast forward to this morning... his leash slipped through my fingers and he bounded up, down, and around the plowed driveway. I didn't worry because I had a pocketful of treats (we've upped the ante in our housetraining endeavors...) The next thing I know Brody took a running headstart and launched himself over a foot in the air to leap onto, or rather into, a snowbank. I was so busy laughing it didn't dawn on me for a few seconds that he was "drowning" in the snow. So I hussled over and rescued him. Poor baby - he's still figuring out this new white stuff and the changing landscape.

Meanwhile, Riley is still insisting that we continue our daily morning walks. We walked over to the end of the street where the entrance to the path used to be... no way we were getting over those snowbanks. So Riley, being the smart little guy he is, immediately headed up the street in the opposite direction and around the corner to where he knew the path came out of the woods again. The look he gave me when I wouldn't go that direction was priceless. We went the other way and, after a while, found a spot where the snow wasn't over his head in order to take care of business. (Have no fear I have multiple poop bags in every pocket of every coat!!)

I am feeling a bit of the shoveling I did yesterday. But not bad. Hopefully it offsets the lack of steps. Unburied my neighbor's garage door just to stay in practice... they're in FL laughing at our weather.

P.S. For those of you who are following my rug saga... yesterday's weather prevented him from making it out to my house. He called this morning just as I was leaving the dentist and promised to be here at 1. That was actually pretty convenient as I was able to take care of all my errands like picking up the turkey at the butcher's and fresh flowers as well as a few other items during that one last grocery store stop. Had just enough time to get the dogs walked before he and his helper arrived. While they worked, I made my quick breads. After taking a short break here on SP, I will launch into a quick vacuum and replacing furniture etc. to their rightful locations. My list for tomorrow doesn't look too bad - laundry, wash some floors, set the table...

Looking forward to Thanksgiving - family all together, delicious food, and a clean house as well as many, many other blessings. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I love snow and have enjoyed your recent blogs. One of The Mutt Brothers launched himself from the top step into a huge snowdrift. I panicked thinking he would drown, but he swam through and popped out on the other end looking like the abominable snow dog.

LOL about the puppy and snow. It is great to watch the dogs in the snow. My little lab loves snow and makes snow angels in just about everybody's yard as we walk. The Weimaraner hates the cold. He wishes he could have been adopted by someone living in Florida.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

We didn't get snow like you but there is enough to cause a problem for Daisy. She can't find all her spots. She goes all over the yard, and it's a pretty big yard, with her nose on the ground trying to find the right smells. Today it's been freezing rain all day long - she just sits in the big chair and looks out the window. She is not happy with this change of weather.

Your puppy sounds adorable and how smart of Riley to know that if he can't get on the path from the beginning, maybe try the end!!

My border collie, Maggie, loved the snow too! She would bounce and jump and bite at the snowflakes! It was so much fun to watch her! Enjoy your pups frolicking in all that snow that fell...that was a lot of snow!!
