End Run

Monday, December 26, 2016

It's the last week of the year and do you know where your motivation went? Did the Thanksgiving-Christmas time frame blow your resolve. It happens.

This year I got spammed by a Spark People mailing probably because I was looking at ortho shoes (Vionix a sponsor). I looked at the intro and decided to join. Now not quite a month later I think it was a good decision.

Overall I am in good shape for the shape I am in - meaning that with multiple medical conditions that I juggle I'm doing well but we can always do better so I decided to try. Unlike so many other programs that tell you - do this and you'll drop XX pounds, SP is more about behavioral changes and usually introduces challenges that everyone can try - tho when you can't you can't and you have to admit it to yourself first. After tearing both rotator cuffs, I will never do push ups or planks true to form. But the here unlike other places I found some options that not even a trainer (total waste of time and $$) mentioned. The options are not as immediately effective but they work another way - they work because for the time I am doing them or trying to do them, I am not eating, thinking about food OR sitting still. And there is something to be said for that as well.

A cyber community is no substitute for real friendships but when you are the new kid in town and not a kid anymore it is a place to start because it builds confidence. It's easier now to reach out to people you meet in other situations. All they can do is say no to whatever or ignore you. Those who ignore you (calls, text emails) aren't worth it. Those who respond are gifts you give yourself so long as you are prepared to accept them. And those who are honest - I don't have time for a new friend right now...they are the best because there is no longer an expectation.

So as the year winds down it's important to remember to do the best you can ... your personal best is really what counts. If you end the day with that thought "I did my best" you will start the next one on a positive note. And one day leads to another and to another and to another.

Be well, stay strong, stay safe and love each other.
