Barrier/hurdle #1--where to start

There are several things I'd like to get started on, but I just don't know where to start. Nothing's urgent, but stuff that I've been wanting and needing to get done for a while. I can see how I get overwhelmed to the point of doing nothing. Declutttering, putting things away, cleaning, organizing, cleaning out the kitchen to see what I've got and don't have (freezer's full but I'm not sure what's in there). Garden to plan, reading to do, etc.
Two thoughts have just come to mind.
1- Set a timer. I can stay focused on one task for 15-20 minutes. When the timer's done, I can either keep on or move on to something else.
2- Grab bag. Break the mess down in "manageable units", write it on a sheet of paper and drop it in the grab bag. If I don't know where to start, I'll just stick my hand in and pull one out. Problem solved.
For now, I"m going to enjoy my hot tea and listen to it rain.
