New Year New Efforts New Me

Monday, January 02, 2017

I have decided this year that it's "me" I need to work on to make other things change, and not try to work on other things to make me change.

I've set myself a few goals for the year, some harder and longer to reach than others, but some of the easier ones help me on my way to achieving some of the more difficult ones. My major goal is weight loss. I've started on an action plan - it needs a bit more work but the basics are in place. I will try and take 5-10 mins at the end of each day to reflect on how well i'm doing and identify any changes/help I might need to keep going in the right direction.

For the whole of January, I'm going to weigh myself every day. Madness? maybe but I hope it will help keep me accountable foodwise. I can accept fluctuations but I don't want to see gains due to bad food/drink choices.

I need to reward myself for progress I think but I'll have to think about what I'll regard as progress (pounds lost mini goals? smaller numbers on the tape measure as it wraps around my waist each month? going x number of days or weeks and staying in weight loss calorie range? x number of steps/fitness minutes a week? so many options) and how to reward. The reward needs to be free or very cheap and not include food or drink (I've decided those treats need to be earned with extra exercise and not given as rewards)! perhaps I should make a rewards savings pot.. see if I can save money in some areas and put that money into the rewards pot. The most obvious one for me is putting my bus fare money into it, but at this time of the year, the weather isn't the best for walking/cycling the 10 mile there and back journey.

Let's see how it goes.

This sounds like a good plan-I have had to go a bit weighing daily to see where my fluctuations are. I'm back to once a week now (because of the Challenge-I would prefer once a month with a few check-ins during the month, but once a week is good for me right now). And I LOVE the thought of taking a bit of time at the end of the day to reflect on how things are going. Way to go, you can do it!

I think you have a good approach.
I recently read a blog and the person does weekly goals. That is what I've decided to do. Weekly goals and attainable goals will keep me going.

As far as rewards, yes - definitely stay away from food rewards but how about little things like a new pair of earrings or a new book and then larger ones like a pedicure or massage.

Good luck with your journey! emoticon
