Moderate Portions

I have slowly learned to watch my portions. I eat about 1/2 of what I was eating before I learned the proper food serving. It was my wrong food choices and second servings that have helped pack on the unwanted weight! Even while cooking at home I have been making healthier food choices, but very proud at watching my portions while eating out in restaurants. When I do go out to eat, I am not afraid to ask for a to go box to set aside half of the meal. Then, I am not tempted to eat more. Sometimes, one of my family members may split the meal with me. I have been relying on my faith, I am a Christian, to help me. No matter what religion you are, it helps to lean on it for motivation. Bible scriptures are what I use for daily for myself, memorizing or just reading them. My husband's parents both passed away in 2015 and my dad and grandfather last year. So, I have made very slow but consistent progress since late 2014, despite my family's circumstances. Now, I am working hard toward incorporating healthier foods in our meals along with walking. I now officially weigh 240! (1/26/17) I still have 100 pounds until my goal weight and I currently have lost 40 pounds, including down from 28 to size 24 in pants. Despite some recent setbacks, I am more determined to stay committed with my routine of walking, watching portions, and making healthier choices. I am ready now also more than ever for another reason because 01/24/17 my husband had gastric bypass surgery. He will be on his own weight loss journey, but I am glad to share this journey with him. It will be difficult for us but I am proud that he wants to go on this journey with me!

    Thank you so much for sharing! I'm so glad to see you back on Sparkpeople. I'm still working on appropriate portions but my big goal right now is to limit snacking to once every 3 hours. LOL

    Good for you. I wish both you and your husband great success on your journey. It really helps when you have a willing partner to share this with. In my family it's really hard. Too many diet restrictions.
