New healthy thing

Friday, April 14, 2017

Yesterday I read in Spark that coffee shouldn't be the first thing you drink since it's a diuretic and when you wake up you really need to re-hydrate so yesterday I decided to start drinking 8 oz of water before my breakfast. As we all know water can fill you up and I a hard time finishing my usual breakfast. I really don't like a stuffed feeling but I know that a good breakfast s important so I managed.

Today I had to work from home so I had an almond butter and honey sandwich instead of my usual Kashi cereal and blueberries. I didn't feel as stuffed but it's 1:20. I've been out for a lunch time walk and I just don't feel like lunch yet so I'm not going to eat anything yet.

I hope this water thing doesn't mess up my whole nutrition. I guess we'll see.

I also read, though, that as we get older our stomach acids decrease, causing us to have more digestive problems. And drinking water before or with a meal actually dilutes those stomach acids! So I never drin water before a meal... But I drink water all day the rest of the day, till about 9pm, so I am not worried about dehydration.

I agree with NellJones. After my morning coffee & very light breakfast I go for a run. No dehydration problems for 30 years now.
Good luck with your experiment. The nice thing about an experiment like this is that if you don't like the results, you can always go back to the old way & no harm done,

I read that, too. My middle son is a Registered Dietician, and he told me the diuretic effect of coffee is so minor not to worry about it. If it were an effective diuretic, people with high blood pressure or congestive heart failure would only need to drink coffee rather than take diuretics. And thank goodness for that! Coffee is the beautiful part of a morning!

I read that also. Haven't tried it yet, but it does make sense. Maybe, as you continue to do so, you'll adjust and get used to it and you'll be able to finish a healthy breakfast.

I drink water all day. I don't eat snacks anymore. I usually just eat breakfast and dinner. It might mess things up. It did for me. Sometimes I have to force myself to eat.
