Flowerbeds weeded and new plants added today.

Day 21 of exercise this year
Gardening 36 minutes 229 calories burned

I asked at church last night if anyone minded me digging up phlox and day lilies or they might be irises. They mow down all of the flowers and never let them bloom because weeds grow up in them. Everyone was happy that I wanted some.

Today, my husband wanted to go to a grocery store in the area of where the church building is and he took a short-handled shovel and three 5-gallon buckets for the plants. One color of phlox is hot pink and the other color is magenta.

I don't know what the lilies will be, but I have been looking for free perennials on Craigslist and elsewhere. My hosta plants were over $10 each and I transplant purple violets which are a weed when they get to be big plants that grow in the gravel in our back yard. We put white gravel at the top of the basement stairs and around the air conditioner.

The more plants in the flowerbeds, the moister the soil stays and the less space there is for weeds to take root. It is to rain tomorrow. We have been in a drought here and though we have had many rainy days, the amount of rain was not much. I like rainy days to do desk work, but tomorrow my sister is paying for someone to style and cut my hair for the wedding.

I checked into what I will need to spend to board Bayau during our son's wedding and be the Lord Willing, will take her Saturday for one of her shots and a nail clip. I also want to visit the kennels and let the owners look over her shot record and prepay for her stay. Tuesday night, the plan is to go dress shopping with my son's fiancee.

Hubby is getting the oil changed on our son's car tomorrow, be the Lord willing. My husband will be picking up our daughter at the airport for the wedding and thought he was going to have to go to Alabama to get the grandfather of the bride. I think now, the bride's mother is going to go and get him and take him back to Alabama. I don't drive the interstates, so if the transportation is messed up, I am not responsible. Whew, I am glad I don't have to juggle arrival/departure times and trips.

Hubby bought pork sausage-$2.79 lb, bottom round steaks-$2.99 lb., ground round-$2.99 lb. We were low on meat and the beef was a good price. We weighed it and bagged it up, put it in the freezer and ate dinner before working on the flowerbeds.

May the fourth be with you (and me) because May 20th is coming soon and we will be gaining a daughter-in-law.

I know you will enjoy your flowers. Bayou will be sad 😔 at your departure but just keep in mind how happy 😊 he will be to see you on your return! Always good when you find meats with reasonable prices. Happy about the wedding 💒. Enjoy your day!

How wonderful that you were able to give the flowers a new chance to grow emoticon & bring a splash of color to the world. It had me instantly feeling sad that anyone would just mow over the plants, instead of taking the time to weed the flowerbeds. However, I immediately rejoiced that you were able to give them new life! The hot pink & magenta blooms will certainly be eye-catching. I don’t know if you have a way to post photos; however, if possible I would so enjoy seeing your newly planted flowerbeds.

You shared that “the more plants in the flowerbeds, the moister the soil stays and the less space there is for weeds to take root” – I have always enjoyed the beauty of a full flowerbed. However, the same can be said of a single flower emoticon or two. emoticon

Give you sister a hug from this gal. emoticon I am so happy that she gifted you with going to the hairdresser for a new do. I hope it becomes your favorite hairstyle ever! emoticon

That is a good idea for Bayau’s care during the celebrations around the wedding. I have lifted prayer on her behalf that she does well with the change. When we go to Petsmart, we always enjoy the dogs who are in their doggie day care &/or hotel care. What surprises me is that at times there are so many dogs (also, different breeds) in the play area & they all seem to get along so well. I am not sure how our Little Gal would do in such an environment. I hope we never have need to find out.

I am glad that your husband will not be taking on the extra responsibility of transporting the bride’s Grandfather. Just one less “to-do” on the father-of-the-groom’s list. It really is nice that y’all had the time with the Grandfather earlier on. He sounded like such a delightful man.

Will your son-in-law be coming with your daughter? It is such a blessing that she will be there to see her brother wed.

I don’t mind driving on the interstate roadways: however, I do not enjoy the actual getting onto them. The merging process always has me on pins & needles with cars whizzing past! I am not a fan of picking up folks at the airport either; however, I am happy to do it in order to get to have them visit. emoticon

What good buys on those meats. emoticon I tend to buy when the sales are good & whatever I choose seems to last forever. I do all the meat purchasing, because I rather choose it myself. My MrV (who does a good 95% of our other food shopping) is okay with that. I guess I am just picky, as all get out, when it comes to the meats that I will be expected to cook up. We really aren’t much for meat – using it more as a flavoring to dishes (that fact is being shared as I am sure the very occasional hamburger emoticon I enjoyed with a “cuppa” strong black coffee emoticon , for my evening meal yesterday is still being digested through my digestive track! emoticon

Our Grandson turned seventeen yesterday. emoticon Jake! emoticon I just learned a few minutes ago, when face timing with our daughter & the children that for years now he has been teased every year with that “May the fourth be with you!” saying. And here I was thinking it something new & determined to “introduce” it him.

May 20th certainly is fast approaching, now isn’t it! I can remember when you first started sharing about that date, that it seemed so far off. I hope & pray that the weather is perfect & that everything connected to the big day emoticon , goes smoothly for everyone involved.

When the older sister emoticon of one of our eldest daughter’s friends got married (years ago now) they were to leave the church (in rural New England) by horse drawn carriage. Both of our families attended that church. The pastor was one of my MrV’s closest friends. At one time they (MrV & the pastor) were talking of his leaving the ministry & the two of them opening a Christian counseling office together. One of my MrV’s graduate studies degrees is in Christian counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Anyway, back to the wedding day - sadly, it rained buckets, so the carriage had to be enclosed with a plastic covering. I remember that at that point in time I had such a feeling of “Why the rain on this of all days!”, as they drove away in the pouring rain – no doubt soaked to the skin, just going from church to carriage. However, almost immediately came the thought that to the bride & groom it probably did not matter as much as onlookers might think. I hope that was the case!

Enjoy all the memory making moments that this time is bringing & will continue to bring!

    God bless!

P.S. I hope & pray emoticon that you find just the right dress for the mother-of-the-groom. emoticon

Sounds like a very productive day. Love irises.

They're probably irises because I don't believe day lilies have bloomed yet. (My two favorite flowers)

Awesome that you were able to score free flowers and in the process you rescued them from being mowed off.

Sounds like hubby scored some great deals on the meat. I am working to use up what I have in the freezer before it gets freezer burn. I tend to buy too much and then don't get it used in a timely fashion so tha is not good!!
