Robin babies in time for mother's day

Sunday, May 14, 2017

A month or so ago, I posted a picture of a leucistic robin in my neighborhood. His unique coloration is due to a genetic mutation. My neighbors and I have been keeping track of him (I think it's a he based on behavior, but I could be wrong) ever since. My neighbor told me yesterday that he has seen the robin taking worms in and out of a bush for the past several days. Today, he and I went peeking into the bush to find a nest buried in the foliage containing four baby robins. All of them appear to have normal coloration and seemed fat and healthy, despite all the cool temperatures, rain, and wind we've had here lately. Tomorrow I may try to get a picture of them, although I don't know if enough light will penetrate into the bush to get a good shot. Here's another picture of parent bird in case you missed it the first time.
