I love my walks

Every day I try to spend about 90 minutes walking. 10 minutes in the morning walking the 3/4 of a mile walk from my car to my office. An hour to 75-minute walk at lunch time and the 3/4 mile walk back to my car. It usually adds up to about 12,000 a day. Today I walked on the Bay. I walk on the Bay trail twice a week and in the industrial park that my company is in twice a week. I have found that walking in the opposite direction usually makes it sort of like a different walk. The Bay walk is nice since there are lots of birds. I am not a birdwatcher since I've never studied the different types and can't really tell one from the other except in the broad sense but I sure like having them around.

This year has been great because we have had lots of rain that has ended the drought we have had for the last several years. The flood ditches are mostly quite full of water and we have ducks, geese, and cranes all over the area. My facility backs up to the San Francisco Bay so the walk is quite nice. I'm really grateful for it.

    A lovely environment makes exercise easier and you certainly have that.
    .75 miles in 10 minutes! That's quite a pace you set for yourself.

    When I was working it was so much easier for me to get out for a walk. In the summers I could get outside and walk all around the downtown area, always choosing a different path. There were always fun things to look at and new things to discover - and not too far was a beautiful park. In the winter we had the skyways - all the buildings in downtown Minneapolis are connected on the 2nd floor with glassed walkways. So you could walk for throughout downtown and never have to put on a coat.

    It's a bit more challenging now that I'm retired but this week I've decided to get up a bit earlier and get out with my dog Daisy for a walk. Still recovering from knee surgery, some days my walks are just over a mile but I'm working up to 3 miles hopefully by mid-summer. Daisy loves them and I find it's such a nice chance for me to just think.
