LCHF - Day 1: focusing on today

Today I started with LCHF (low carb, high fat) diet again.

For someone as me, who has always had a high-carb diet and has a sweet tooth, it seems impossible to live without sugar.

However, it's past 8 pm, and Day is almost over, without any problems.

I'm having a light headache, nothing I can't manage. And I felt pretty tired and irritable somewhere around lunchtime. Dessert is a must have for me, so I needed strong will today.

BREAKFAST: eggmilk coffee
LUNCH: meat, zucchini, salad (cabbage and carrots), mushrooms
DINNER: lunch leftover meat and zucchini, a tomato
AFTER DINNER: eggmilk coffee

This was my day today. I have no idea how I'm going to do this long-run. But I'm focusing on today. Today was good. Day 1 - done! emoticon

    I'm cheering you on Selina. I wouldn't ever eat any other way. It just feels so good not to be controlled by carbs. Question though... what is a eggmilk coffee?

    Great job! Probably normal to feel off when you first start eating differently. But remember, it doesn't have to be all our nothing. If too hard, try a small adjustment that you can stick with long-term. Then change again as you feel comfortable.

    Eons ago, when I was eating low fat/low calorie, I used to have tea with cream and splenda after a meal at a restaurant. That was my dessert. Maybe your eggmilk coffee can serve the same purpose for you?

    Don't forget the high fat part of the equation! It's important to get in enough calories and also to keep you satisfied.

    Headaches, irritability, and feeling tired are common the first few days or week of eating low carb. Part of it is your body adapting to using fat for fuel instead of glucose, and part of it is that your electrolytes get out of balance as your body dumps a bunch of extra fluids that it's been holding on to. Try drinking some broth. It often helps. Or even just eating a bit of extra salt.
