Completing my June goals
Friday, June 30, 2017
June was a very exciting and successful month for me. I set several goals, and aced every one of them.
I walked no less that 15 minutes every day, usually two or more 20 minute walks, some a bit longer.
I went to the gym every day and worked out. My goal was 10 minutes a day, but mostly I did 20 to 30 minutes a day. I went from level 1 of the rowing machine to level 8. My goal for July is to get to level 10 (the highest level) and extend my time until I can do 20 minutes at level 10 every day.
I drank 12 to 16 cups of water every day (and managed to kick the diet soda habit).
I worked on getting enough sleep. I've had insomnia for over 50 years, so that wasn't easy. I started taking a sleeping pill every night for two weeks, then every other night. I hope to be able to sleep 8 hours every night without assistance by the end of July.
My biggest goal was to stick with the Whole30 eating plan for the whole 30 days. Basically meat, seafood, eggs, fruit and vegetables only. No grains, legumes, sugar and sugar substitutes, alcohol or dairy. I did it!! (And, in the process, I tamed my sugar dragon and kicked the diet cola habit. I did NOT miss the foods I thought I would, didn't crave candy or desserts, and hardly missed dairy at all except for the occasional pat of butter on a baked potato or parmesan on my zucchini spaghetti substitute. I did miss green peas, which I love, but I plan to put those three items back into my meals (occasionally) and keep going with Whole 30 for another 30 days (or more). I don't know if I lost any weight because I'm not allowed to weigh until tomorrow, but I don't really care. The best part of Whole 30 is that I feel AMAZINGLY HEALTHY and very comfortable with my current eating plan. I don't need snacks between meals, and I have plenty of energy for walking, going to the gym, and whatever else I need to do. I'm really excited about staying with Whole30, probably for the rest of my life, with occasional treats on special occasions.
