Day 978 - Vacation Winding Down
Thursday, August 03, 2017
We have had a great vacation, exploring new places and new cultures, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. We've taken countless photos and will add more when we return home to better Internet connections. For now, you can see the photos here.
The albums will update over the weekend as the remaining photos are uploaded. One photo album is just of the Pop Art exhibit at the Beurs van Burlage in Amsterdam that we went to right before we boarded the ship.
I will admit that I haven't been great at tracking _every bite_ like I would at home, but that's because I sometimes want to sample something that I have no idea what it is much less what it contains. I still exercise portion control and have been diligent at getting my fitness activities in. (I will never leave the Spark program!) These small river cruise ships don't have fitness centers, but there has been so much walking in the towns we've visited and when I don't get enough walking in town, I can walk the path on the top deck of the ship to get some extra miles in. Today was the best day walking - I logged just over 10 miles through Strasbourg, France, and Kehl, Germany, sister cities on either side of the Rhine. The good news is that my clothes still fit, but I look forward to getting back to some toning and strengthening activities when we get back home.
This has been a fantastic trip and I've been so grateful to have had the experience of traveling this way. We have made many friends on the ship - something that never happened on any previous ocean cruises we have taken - and many of those friends will stay with us for a long time.
This trip has been a good reminder of the famous Mark Twain quote:
I hope you can find the opportunity to travel somewhere outside of your normal sphere. You will be enriched by it!
