Persistent and Still Having Fun
Wednesday, September 06, 2017
This has been a real up and down year for my weight and it is not over. As I changed the calendar to SEPTEMBER (yes I still have a paper calendar on the wall) I realized Fall is coming, the image of Halloween candy, Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas goodies materialized. During the Summer I enjoyed myself and chose the fun food at parties, picnics, family events and on vacation. When the balloons were put away, or the beach towels put in the washer I would recommit to making the healthy choices. Being persistent and going back to sensible meals helped me to keep my weight under control. I didn’t lose anything but I started September at the same weight as in June. This is a good thing.
I am going to focus on losing 3-6 pounds before the end of October by keeping to healthy meals and exercising every day. Thank goodness there are no holidays between now and then. Even if it is only a short workout video, moving is always a good choice. Trying to lose weight is sometimes very depressing because I can make all the right food choices but the number on the scale will not move. It does helps to look at other markers like being able to button the top button on my jeans without holding my breath.
Persistence helps to lose the weight, making the right choices every day and doing a lot of self talk about how good I feel and telling that cookie that it can just stay on the store shelf. My eating difficulties come when eating out, during emotional crises and feeling bored. There is a lot of advice about how to eat healthy at restaurants and parties, I am committed to doing it for the next few months. I have strategies for getting through dramas that come along and drinking herb tea when I feel stressed. Being prepared and mentally ready does help to stay on track
I plan to have fun during the holidays but I am going to be ready for them. Practicing my skill sets over the next few months will be an important part of preventing weight gain during the holidays. And I will be persistent about staying healthy.
NOTE: A few people and I are doing a 14 Day Get Ready for Fall challenge in the Team: 50+ members With 10-24 lbs to Lose, very informal and personal. Everyone is invited to stop by and join in.
