Yesterday I was angry, today I'm depressed

Friday, October 13, 2017

I had an ironclad commandment about speaking about political issues in public that I broke yesterday with my Sparkblog. I really appreciate that the supportive comments I got from some of my friends. I apologize if I offended you.

Yesterday, I listened to a podcast from NPR that talked about the record-breaking rainfall that Napa and Sonoma counties had this past rainy season. The rains brought weeds and brush that has sat in the hot sun all summer and has ignited so easily in these fires. We keep getting news reports of all kinds of metal objects that have melted because the fire is so intense. Two hospitals in the area have had to close. The smoke is so thick people who are fleeing for lives can't see where the roads are and there have been all kinds of auto accidents. They expect really heavy winds and low humidity in the area this weekend which has caused a red condition. None of the fires are contained even close to 50% There are about 20 different fires blazing. We have visited Napa and Sonoma many times. The area was beautiful and produced delicious wines. It's not likely that either area will survive this.

Here in the UK we also have people and more importantly, Politicians, that are ignoring the reality of climate change. We haven't suffered the same extremes [yet]. My thoughts are very much with the people of California, and all areas that are suffering such devastation.

Anger is natural. Depression is often anger turned inwards. Turn it out again and direct it in as positive way as you can. Sorry, I know that sounds glib but it's how I deal with it. Being involved with environmental groups/activists/campaigners. It helps me to feel I am at the very least trying to raise awareness.

It is horrendous how devastating the fires have been. I do understand where you're coming from, but I do believe the land can come back from the fires--it will likely be really expensive to replace those wine vines though. They are cultivated so carefully. Such a shame.

I watched the video submitted by our leader Spark Guy regarding the fires nearest him. So sad to see and hard to imagine the pain from those affected. Sending hugs emoticon and prayers!

Don't ever apologize for speaking your mind! Some things just need to be said, plain and simple because knocking sense into somebody's head with a stick of lumber is not smiled upon.

Where I live we can see the subtle differences that climate change is bringing...thankfully, none as horrific as many in the world are facing.

    Hugs

It's just so so sad! Hopefully the rains will start soon. And I know, the whole Napa and Sonoma area was so gorgeous - this will be such a blow.

You are going through a lot and the world seems scary these days. You need to get it out. I wish I could send our rainy weather your way or pluck you out of there.

    I'm thinking about you!

I get it. I am living in Minnesota and we have had nothing but good weather for months. We have more rain than we need and I only wish there was a way to send it your way. It all makes me terribly sad and I'm not even living in it - no floods, no hurricanes, no fires, not even a tornado, and pretty much no shootings to speak of. I can't imagine what the people of California have had to experience this summer and you had so much rain earlier in the year.

I am praying every day, several times a day. I don't know what else to do!

Hang in there. You are in our prayers. It has all been such a horrible tragedy. Peace.

When we're inundated with news of tragedies all around and there's nothing we can do to help, it is so easy to feel overwhelmed and depressed. Try to take care of yourself with something that reminds you of the joy in life, even a walk in a park full of colorful leaves.
