I need new goals

Monday, October 23, 2017

I suddenly realize that Candy is out of my life, I never drink coffee after breakfast and I have grown to love water so 64 ounces is nothing. I need something that has at least a little challenge to it. Gotta come up with something new. Any ideas?

Yesterday we walked the mile to the train station, took it one stop and then walked to Avaya Stadium to see the SJ Earthquakes beat the Minnesota United team so they could enter the Soccer finals for the first time since 2012. We had great seats and my sons, daughter in laws and adorable grandsons all joined us. The weather was near perfect. It was an awesome day. We were walking back to the train station with my younger son, Jeff, and his family and we got separated. It felt terribly anti-climatic since we didn't get to say goodbye. We walked back to the train and checked schedules and saw that the bus to our neighborhood would leave before the next train and is cheaper so we took the bus home. It was a longer walk to our house than the train station but both my husband and I love to walk so that wasn't so bad. I was wracking my brain for some delicious dinner we could have and use up some of the vegetables from our farm. While we were walking home Jeff called and asked if we wanted to meet them at our local Thai restaurant for dinner. I love Thai food. it is so delicious and every dish comes with vegetables. I had salmon with a terrific tomato sauce on it and mixed vegetables over rice. It was delicious. My grandson insisted that he wanted to sit between my husband and I. He said we were his best friends. All in all, it was a terrific day.

Your day with the family sounds like my kind of day! Love the grands! Maybe you could choose a challenge here on SP for your next goal or a hobby that would use up some of your extra time when you retire.

Isn't it great to live in a world with cell phones? I'm glad you were able to re-connect and have a meal together.

What a sweetheart of a grandson!!!

There are all kinds of goals you could try. Maybe (since you mentioned Thai food) buy a Thai cookbook and dedicate a year to trying every recipe in the book. (Your own version of the movie/blog Julie and Julia.) Take up a new sport, like tennis or golf or an exercise class. Try a new hobby (quilting, knitting, painting, bookbinding, I don't know). Or if you want, downsizing is always a major chore that many of us put off - you could make that your task, spend an hour a day working on clearing out all those things you never use. (That one will also burn calories since you'll be carrying stuff back and forth. Might even end up having a yard sale, and you can make some money.)

I hear you're retiring soon? Do you have a plan for what will come next in your life? That can also be what you work on, developing ideas/plans for what you'll do once you're no longer working. (It's like summer vacation forever - we love it!)

You're about to retire! Why start thinking up new "jobs" for yourself before you even get settled into your new life adventure. Let something unfold... That's what I think. Love that sweetie-pie grandson of yours!

Sounds like a great day. For some new goals how about decide a number of miles you are going to walk per week, month or per year, sign up for a walking race. Pick a mountain or certain hiking trail you want to conquer.

That does sound like a terrific day. Glad you could enjoy it.
Some Spark teams offer goals for their members; would any of them serve as new goals for you?

Look to your passions. Maybe some volunteering, mentoring.

Sounds like a wonderful day. We were able to have our two grandsons as overnight guests on Wednesday. When they arrived the oldest gave us both a hug and said how much he missed us. It was pretty special!
