At least I made it thru this holiday...

Thursday, November 23, 2017

I've driven up to the town my brother lives in several times since my big vacation but today it was hard. It was always my job to make sure mom and dad got there. No one to talk to in the car, no need to leave early because mom always forgot to get dressed. I told them all I was staying home for Christmas this year. I really don't want to make that drive for another family get together right now.

But I managed to put a smile on my face and keep up with the teasing. One of my brothers it a stoic old man and the other one still thinks he's a kid. Always causing problems and picking on the kids.

For a change the food wasn't bad. My mother would have been so happy with the normal pumpkin pie. In the last couple of years of her life they tried to feed her chocolate pumpkin pie and one made from a real pumpkin and they just don't taste like the ones she remembered. So on this holiday it was a real normal one. One year we even got it with ginger snap cookie crumbs instead of a pie crust.

But so many of that brothers side of the family are kind of off when it comes to food. One family will only eat it if you use organic, one is lactose intolerant and someone else is gluten free. How do you take things to the holiday with so many restraints. But since angel pie is just eggs, sugar and lemon curd...it meets the requirements. But I did use organic eggs and whipping cream.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get my sewing space straightened out and do some house work. I also really need to go up and clean the cat little room (it's the tiny 2nd floor bathroom). That will make for a full day but I also need to run to town because I'm out of bread and eggs.

Even though this year was different, going without your folks, I'm glad you were able to spend the time with family. It's likely you're helping build some great memories for your family just by being there and being yourself!

I am glad you had your family holiday and that the food was good. I will have to cut way back tomorrow as I ate too much today. Thanksgiving food just calls out to me. We ate at my sister-in-laws today and she sent food home with us. Nothing like a midnight snack of ham and pecan pie. If my diabetes is off tomorrow, I will know why.

Take care of yourself and enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.
