Good morning!
Just a quick update this morning.
Yesterday I took Jacob into the Dr. for his sports physical for Special Olympics. He is autistic and since I have been here I hadn't seen one of his meltdowns. Well yesterday they needed to draw a little blood and update his immunizations. OMG ! I called my daughter at work and she talked him down, a bit. Basically bribed him with a video game, but he was still very stressed and combative. It took 2 nurses and myself to hold him still. He did calm down afterwards, and as we were driving home we talked about it.. He told me they "shanked" him. I told him it was just a little poke. Then Mr. Vocabulary found other words to describe the event: sliced, cut stabbed. It was an excellent opportunity for me to talk about why Dr. draw blood and administer vaccines. I don't know if he was convinced, but I did get him laughing.
I have a ton of respect for what my daughter has gone through getting him where he is. He is a B student, in regular classes, although he does have an aide. He cleans his room ( not perfectly but that is OK), begrudgingly does assigned chores , can cook a bit and prepares his own breakfast and occasional dinner, and is his current wish is to be an actor. Most of the time he is relatively calm. I am going to use that as a learning experience and some bonding time. We are going to do movie nights and find some things like community plays to get a feel for what he thinks he wants. Since he is 13, I am sure that will change, but it is a way for me to stay engaged with him. In the meantime, I hope he doesn't need anymore vaccines or blood tests for a long time!
His doctor is great. The Dr has a brother who has special needs and is very understanding. That is awesome. I am very impressed with the school system too.
As much as I dislike the weather here, I think this is where my daughter and kids need to live. My Christmas list for Santa includes a long winter coat, a hat and some gloves. But maybe I should just go get them, because I don't think I have been very good this year. LOL
I have been logging my food all week. Did you notice I didn't say I was eating healthy. I just said I was logging!!
I

am loving the PT and the Wellness Center. My daughter calls it the Country club. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towels, hair gel, and other grooming aids are provided. The center is clean and has a full calendar of water exercise classes by ability. I am in the level 4 group for arthritis. Who knows maybe I can continue and work my way up to level 1 classes. Right now my reward is the warm whirlpool at the end of a session.
Thursday night I took my Granddaughter Ashley to her Christmas concert. It was outside at 6 pm at a shopping center. Oh baby, it is cold outside. So this weekend, I am getting prepared for WINTER! Mukluks here we come! I DON'T CARE IF IT ISN'T FASHIONABLE. I WANT TO BE WARM!
The trees ( 3 this year) are decorated. Elfie Bob is doing his shenanigans and the cats are having fun!
Too much fun!
Everyone have a HEALTHY weekend!
