1000 in 2017!!!

I am beyond ecstatic! Yesterday, I completed a goal I had set myself on January 1st, 2017: Run 1000 miles in 2017. That is a long ways! Reality speaks that I obviously didn't run it all in one day. How did I accomplish that goal? Break it down! 1000 miles = 83.3 miles a month = 19.2 miles a week = 2.74 miles a day. Now break down the hours: 9.5 minute miles average = 9500 minutes of running this year = 158 hours = 6.59 days. People binge watch Netflix for longer than that! My daily run time was less than 30-40 minutes/day. Well, some days I ran a lot (20 milers) and some days I was sick and I sat on the couch. The average was still there. As time went on, the miles started adding up.
(January Snow Storm)
(February 40 days in)
(April Early Sunshine)
(May, Olympic Distance Triathlon)
(June, Adventure Run)
(July, Sprint Triathlon)
(August Smokey Forest fires)
(November Last of leaves)
(December, I made 1000!)
I kept track of my mileage old school. Writing it on a piece of paper and posting it in my bathroom. I saw it everyday as motivation, and 7 pages later, I got to put the "1000!" The whole thing wasn't easy.
It took a lot to keep going. I wanted to quit so much! Telling myself "no ones going to care if you quit" or the dreaded "you are missing out with your family" aka mommy guilt. Grit kept me going. But in reality, my family was better for me taking a run and taking time for myself, because I was less stressed and had more patience. My performance at my job got better, I was more focused and received a promotion. And last but not least, I felt accomplished. I completed what I had set out to do 12 months prior. That feeling of success is so gratifying!
Its funny when you run(outdoors), how much you enjoy the world around you! There is so much to see at a slower pace. It made the many hours out there fantastic and worth it!
What is next for 2018? A new pair of shoes(I went through 3 pairs last year)! I would love to do another 1000! It wasn't super hard, just had to remember to track it. March has my yearly 13.1 and I also have Ironman Victoria 70.3 on my radar in June! 2018 is going to be epic! It really is amazing what you can put your mind to!
