First day of the year

Monday, January 01, 2018

Whew. I made it that first day without eating desserts. I noticed that sweets are kinda like a default for me....I went to a get together and thank goodness they didn't have any desserts.

They are cocktail people and I am also thankful that I can stop at one because if they were serving cupcakes, I am not sure I could say the same. They had cheese, nuts, crackers and the like to munch on. I am glad I had salad for dinner because I think the low cal salad balanced out the high cal snacks.

A few things I noticed:
With the cheese, there was 'guava paste' ..a sweet jelly like food item to eat with some of the cheese. I had some. It was sweet, of course. But, it wasn't dessert. I noticed how enticing it was and moved away from the food table and enjoyed the karaoke.

I had some eggnog. Whoa, that is super sweet too. I threw it out.

This morning I went to breakfast and was not called by the dessert like toppings on pancakes and waffles...and went for an egg based meal. This is a miracle. I have been resistant to eating eggs and could say I just did not like them in the past. But, little by little, at breakfast I have been adding an egg instead of the carby dishes and I am glad for it. ...

However, the coffee. Ugg. I don't drink coffee or alcohol during normal days because I think I am better off without it and I am glad I get back to work next week and can be back to a more regular routine where I put certain choices, like coffee or cocktails back on the shelf.

...in any case, I am grateful for how far I have come in 2017. I have changed careers! (another story for another day) and I can pass up treats , like listed above, and make alternate choices that are (a little) better for me.

Here's to continuing the trend for 2018!
