Here's to you and your News Years Resolution
Monday, January 01, 2018
I just got back from the YMCA, and it was packed. Not surprising because it is after all January 1st, and people are jumping into to their resolutions to improve themselves. I don't mind a packed YMCA and I don't mind a half-empty YMCA.
However, while I was putting my purse and coat in a hall locker upon my arrival, I overheard three people talking next to the locker next to me. They were making snide remarks about "how long do you think it will be until all these New Years Resolutioners finally leave?" One of the women said, "Oh I give it a week or two, and then it will be back to normal". I wanted to interject my opinion so badly, by informing them that last year there were so many "Newcomers" to my Zumba class they had to move it to the gymnasium because the class was so packed...in February. However, I chose not to say anything because some people's ignorant opinions will not be swayed by my opinion.
One of the ladies even had the audacity to give me a dirty look as I approached her at the water fountain. Again I chose to ignore this because honestly, I am there for me not for anyone else. I don't give a hoot if you weigh 350lbs or 110lbs...hooray for you finding the energy and sometimes courage to go to the gym and workout.
If you are venturing into a new gym or maybe your old gym...that you have forgotten about, good for you! Keep at it, I have seen lots of success stories come out of my Y in regards to New Years Resolutions. Some people have inspired me to keep going when I am just struggling to stay on top of everything going on in my life.
My advice? Don't let the judgement of someone else, hinder your goals. You can slow down to a crawl if need be, but don't give up.
Make 2018 your year!
