Happy New Year 2018!!!

Monday, January 01, 2018

2017 was a good year. It had its ups and downs, good times and bad, very good and very bad and all manner of times in between. I feel blessed with all that God provided for me and my family. A few changes that took place: I was diagnosed with full on diabetes and am trying to get my sugar under control (haven't worked very hard on it over the holiday season), my sister moved in with us at the end of October so we have a very full house now and my dad's Alzheimer's is getting worse.. I am also concerned with the way I have isolated myself from others. I have my dad, my husband and now my sister but not much social interaction outside the house except for an occasional doctor's visit or with clerks when I run errands. I have a couple close friends I can call or visit once in a while but I don't that often. I am going to start using Sparkpeople as my sounding board more and more. I hope I don't "overshare".

The concerns I have for this new year are:
1. getting my sugar under control: I would love to get off medicine completely, but I at least don't want to start having to take insulin shots which means I have to do a much better job of eating the right foods
2. improving my fitness: I am very inconsistent so I am setting a goal to work out 10 minutes a day, it will probably be mostly walking with some strength training and stretching to round it out.
3. supporting my husband better: by praying for him and making sure he is able to take time out for himself, He helps me take care of my father a lot and I know he gets frustrated at times

I am sure I will think of others along the way but I don't want to overwhelm myself by taking on too much at once. I plan on taking it one step at a time and one day at a time.

I can't wait to get started. Have a Happy New Year everyone.
