What I discovered from this past year (this being the first year that I've held a full time job and a permanent part time job, both of which are physically active), is that planning is imperative to success. I'm going to be 56 this year, I don't have the natural energy I had when I was younger. Planning meals, shopping, cooking, and getting in exercise while holding down 2 jobs takes planning and perseverance. I know myself well enough now to know that planning, shopping and cooking in one day will not only wear me out, but stress me out. I know that cooking when I get home from work needs to be minimal or I simply won't do it.

So, for me, this year is all about being strategic. I will be planning my meals throughout the week, shopping one evening (or morning) in the week and doing the cooking on my day off. This first week is about learning the balance of how to do this.

I have not spent much time on Spark People this past year. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I've been too tired to bother getting online at all. This has to change. SP is invaluable to my success. Recording what I eat is the only way for me to keep on track. I also really love the Perfect Produce app. If you haven't tried it, you should!
