Two more sleeps!

Sunday, January 14, 2018

This is a new year so it's time for a holiday.
Our first one is my special emoticon emoticon starting on Tuesday for 15 nights HAL Volendam.
We fly to Singapore and board the ship in the evening and then depart next afternoon.
My birth date will be celebrated at sea on Thursday!

We then cruise to Ko Samui and then Bangkok in Thailand. We have a shore excursion planned to the most impressive Namuang Waterfall. Then to the Jungle Safari and the mummified monk temple. Next, a monkey show to discover how Samui trained monkeys harvest coconuts from the trees and then enjoy the fruits of their labour. Next will be a visit to the very famous rock formation of Hin Ta & Hin Yai (Grandfather and Grandmother), located at the idyllic Emerald Sea.

Our next port of call on Monday 22nd Jan will be Sihanoukville in Cambodia. We will visit a fishing village & floating house. Then is onto Kbal Chhay Waterfall but don't know how much water there will be because this is the dry season. We will also visit Wat Leu known as "Upper Wat" Pagoda and then Wat Krom known as "Lower Wat" Pagoda.
Then we visit Phsar Leu Central Market, the main market in Sihanouk Ville, a typically busy Khmer Market. Our last visit will be Independence Monument.

After a day at sea, we dock in Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon staying there for around 12 hours.

Next day-Thursday 25th we arrive in Nha Trang and will be taken on a city tour visiting Bao Day villa and the Vietnam Oceanographic Institute, Nagar Temples, Cathedral or Stone Church and Long Son Pagoda.
After dinner at a local restaurant will return to emoticon

Friday we are at sea and then on Saturday, we come to Da Nang - Hoi An, an ancient town.
We will be visiting Linh Ung Pagoda, famous for the huge statue of Lady Buddha - 67m high.
In Hoi An we will enjoy a cruise down the Thu Bon river. After lunch we take a walking tour to see 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, 300 years old Chinese temple, 200 years old Vietnamese former merchant's house and do some great shopping!

After spending Sunday at sea we dock the next day in Halong Bay/Hanoi for the day.

Tuesday is sea day and we finish in Hong Kong on Wednesday and fly home in the evening.

Hope to get some bridge play on sea days. Even though it's winter in the northern hemisphere, Vietnam will be hot and humid 86-95 deg F, means hat and sunscreen!
