A New Lifestyle - Change is Possible!

I'm not addicted to sugar or even high on the susceptibility chart. I drink mostly water and sometimes a cuppa tea or coffee and lactose free milk if I want milk. With tea, coffee, or milk it's often nice to have a cookie. I can usually limit myself to one or two cookies. Progress, not perfection! My husband likes cookies so we have them. I don't want to make cookies my "forbidden fruit" or feel deprived. I do support the Girl Scouts, but I didn't buy any cookies this year!
I rarely drink alcohol. I can have fun without "needing" a drink. Yesterday during the Super Bowl I enjoyed a homemade bowl of hot cauliflower soup. My husband and I both enjoy cooking. I admit that I like a good hamburger. I grew up during the 50s and 60s! Now however, when we eat out I usually choose something healthy like broiled salmon or something grilled without breading. I choose things that are "heart healthy." I've learned a lot of things since I joined Spark People, and I'm grateful for the articles, teams, and Spark friends I have.
I've lost weight, regained, and lost again. Last fall I had a total knee replacement and during my recovery I was able to change my lifestyle. I had daily physical therapy while in rehab, later as an outpatient three times weekly, then twice weekly, and Thursday is my last PT appointment until I have the other knee done or have some other need. I must exercise my new knee daily for the next year if I want to maintain flexion, and I do! Learning to exercise and seeing great results has taught me that it works when done consistently and correctly. I'm not a runner, but I like walking and want to hike again when the weather is more pleasant! I am a Lifetime Girl Scout, a member of the Green Hat Society, and I enjoy camping and visiting our many wonderful state and national parks. I have things I want to do, and places and people I want to see during the rest of my life. I'm hoping to be healthy and happy for as long as possible!
