What a waste....

Thursday, March 22, 2018

Of time.... yes, there are some many things clumped under the category of relaxation that are really wastes of time. Surfing on Facebook, playing solitaire or mahjong or jigsaw puzzles on the computer. I tend not to get anything done when I get home from work and then wonder why I haven't gotten any thing done and why I just don't seem to have any time. I'm usually running on too little sleep and when bedtime comes around I get my second wind and stay up too late leading to less sleep and the cycle continues. Work is intensive, especially if I'm working the floor. When I get home I don't want much in the way of stimulation--no loud or obnoxious noises, no interaction much to speak of except for the cats and my hubby. I don't want to go anywhere (except for pizza or mexican food) or do anything (such as exercise). Cleaning and cooking get put on the back burner. I tend to hermit. I tend to eat that which I don't have to put a lot of thought into.

My homework is to think of a few ways to waste less time, get more sleep, and preserve my sanity. And make sure they are doable and reasonable. At one point I'd thought of writing down a bunch of tasks that need to be done on sheets of paper and putting them into a box/basket/jar and pulling one out and focusing on it for 15-20min. I've been carrying those sheets of paper for quite some time, maybe it's time for them to be put to use......

I've fallen into the same trap ever since I got my hands on a computer and could've written this blog too. After seven years I finally said enough and within the last year it's like a hurricane went through my home and swept it clear of clutter and is still going strong. I swore to myself, I wasn't letting another year just pass by without any constructive good coming out of it. So far, I've kept my promise. Best wishes for a turn around.

Ouch, you struck a nerve with me. I found I've been wasting time almost every evening. I log into my office to do some work and then find myself just killing time, rather than accomplishing anything useful. I did manage to change that pattern last night (before I even read this blog). I need to pay attention to what works for me. Let us know what really works for you.

I personally have a control journal (if you know Marla Cilley -- The FlyLady -- an organizational expert, this is her way to keep you organized and get things done.) in which I have all the routine daily chores listed so I can check them off. Then there's alos those chores which are less pressing, but need to get done. It is a great way to make sure that weekly, the chores are all completed.

Of course there are days that don't go according to plan, so have to be flexible, too.
