Finally back in tune

Thursday, April 12, 2018

I retired on 1/31/2018 and three days later we left on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean. If you have ever been on a cruise you know it is not the place to lose weight. Delicious food is always available and wonderful desserts. I gained 4 pounds during that trip and I've had a really hard time losing them. But I think (considering up and down a pound everyday) I have finally trended down to my regular maintenance place. I can't believe it has taken a whole month to lose 4 pounds. I guess a 1/2 pound a week is pretty normal. Fortunately my fitness club has been doing a LBD challenge and they have given us shopping lists and menus. A lot of what they suggest doesn't jive with Sparkpeople (My bible) so I'm half ignoring a lot of it but they have helped and now I'm back in tune body-wise

I think 4 pounds is fantastic. I've never been on a cruise but always manage to put on 5 -7 pounds on a trip. 1/2 a week is very good. Help keep it off longer. You're doing great!

Here's to doing what works for you! emoticon

It is hard to get back on track after a cruise or vacation. Being retired and loving to travel I have faced the post trip gain too many times. I try much harder now to eat what I want, but to eat smaller portions. I also try to get in as much activity as possible.

Glad you're getting back on track and contratulations on the retirement!

Yeah, cruises make it difficult to maintain or lose weight - but you had fun, and probably walked a lot, and ate lots of fruit and vegs, right? And 4 lbs on vacation isn't abnormal - so don't beat yourself up too much. Getting back on track was absolutely the best way to deal with it!

Sounds like a lovely way to celebrate your retirement!

My fitness club offers a 3 week Lean & Tone with weekly menus and workouts. I am able to incorporate about 1/2 of it into my life - some of the recipes just don't appeal to me and my husband says no way! But yes, it did help just to have some structure.

Glad you made some great memories. Pounds will fade away, but memories will last a long long time.

Honestly, I think losing 4 lbs. in a month is great. That's what I saw when I was in weight loss mode ... on average a pound a week. We're all different. I suppose others lose faster. That was not my experience.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise and have returned to your maintenance range. emoticon

I think it was wonderful that you allow d yourself to enjoy your cruise to the fullest! Those four pounds will come off long before your memories of your cruise begin to fade.
