Can I just get a minute...

Friday, April 13, 2018

The past few months have been hectic. People are always saying there are 2 things for certain: death and taxes. Well I have a third: CHANGE! Some we choose (i.e. our current journey of health and wellness) and others we don't (loss of a loved one, loss of a job or lots of other tragic events played out in the nightly news). Over the past few months, I've been forced to face lots of change. At work we're often told that those that embrace change are the ones that are able to establish longevity. While I know that to be an HR mantra (the rest of us know if we don't embrace the change we could be out of a job later), learning to embrace change in life is not optional.

I have generally thought it was odd that we'd use the phrase "embrace change". The word embrace makes me visualize a hugging motion. This made it seem odd to me that we'd use the phrase, particularly since I don't consider myself to be a hugger. As I think about it more and look back at how I've dealt with (and continue to deal with) the change in my life over the past few months, I am becoming more comfortable with the visual idea of embracing it.

Now not all hugs are created equal; neither are all experiences embracing change. In the end every hug allows another "someone" into your personal space. The reality of change is that whether you embrace it or not it's coming. You may as well face it with outstretched arms. So here I am taking a deep breath, gathering my thoughts and waiting to exhale...

Great blog. Change used to depress me until I learned that it is necessary and we usually can't control it so we may as well not resist and accept it. It's much easier and makes life much happier.

That's a great way of looking at it....my hubby's not one for liking change, whereas I'm grow anxious and antsy if things are 'status' quo too long...change forces us out of our comfort levels/range-it's tough & hard but brings growth-even when we don't want it...great insights in your blog emoticon
