Feeling emotional

Saturday, April 14, 2018

My son has struggled with alcohol for years. He called me last week to tell me that he needed help. He was going to see about getting into a rehab close to home (but he would have had to wait at least a month to get a medical clearance). I asked one of my pastors about a place he knew of. He contacted a friend and this friend got him in. He leaves Monday. This place is clear across the country and he won’t be able to have any outside contact the first 6 weeks and he will be gone for a year. He told me last night he wasn’t going to writing/calling me much. (I’m use to talking to him almost every day). I’m praying that he’s saying this, because he’s going through a lot right now. For those of you who pray, please keep my son and this mama in your prayers. Thank you!

That's wonderful that he has admitted to himself that he has a problem and is ready to take steps to do something about it. It may be a long road, but with determination and your support, he will make it. Be strong, be patient, and take care of YOU.

You can always journal your thoughts to him while you have no contact and share during his healing process when he is ready. I've had many people go through rehab and it's important they are isolated those first 6 weeks.Helps to focus on themselves.

It's great he has admitted to you his addiction and wants to seek help. It's not an easy journey. Addicts don't realize the pain gunnery bring on their family and I'm so sorry you are going through this.
