Mt Kenya Hike
Saturday, April 14, 2018
I’d promised to share photos from my Mt Kenya hike but I just haven’t been able to get round to doing it. Anyways, better late than never.
That’s me at the summit. Tired but really pleased with myself.
Enjoying the sunrise on day 2 of the hike.
Beautiful lake on the mountain.
Enjoying the snow.
The beauty of God’s creation.
We finished in the rain. It actually rained everyday of the hike.
This was such an amazing experience, and I’m ready to do it again. If I got a chance to go back today, I would not hesitate.
Day one was about 5 hours of slow hiking to the first base camp (Old Moses). Day two (Saturday) was a whole day of hiking from Old Moses to Shipton camp. On Sunday we started off at 2.00a.m and reached the summit at 7.00a.m. We then descended to Shipton for brunch and an hour break before setting off to Old Moses. This was a really long day. We were tired and there was lots of snow and rain along the way. We got to Old Moses at 9.00pm. At least this was my first night of good sleep, I’d struggled with lack of sleep throughout the weekend. Monday morning was relaxed, we set off at 8.00am for the 3 hour walk to the gate. It was faster because it was downhill.
I have lots of pictures from the hike and I will always treasure this experience. In September I start training for the Mt Kilimanjaro hike which will be at the end of the year. If any Sparker is interested in doing this hike, I’d be more than happy to join you for support.
