Crochet and Life Lessons

Tuesday, May 08, 2018

A few years back, I was going through a really difficult time in my life. Everything that had seemed so in order one day, turned into something totally unrecognizable the next. So many changes, in so little time, made me feel as if I was about to lose my mind. Thank God for good friends! One day one called me and ask me to come to her house for a chat. I went and while there she introduced me to crocheting, telling me it saved her life and marriage. I thought ‘ok if you say so, but I don’t think it can do all that for me!’ Well I was wrong!

It took me a moment to learn, but once I got it down I took off like a rocket learning new skills. I mean I couldn’t learn a stitch fast enough before moving on to another. I soaked it up so completely that I went far and above the skill of my teacher.
I tell that part only to stress my excitement of learning this skill.

So the life lessons I speak of in the title are these - one thing you must resolve within yourself when learning new skills is that you Will Mess Up, no doubt about it, or any way around it. Making mistakes while learning is inevitable!! Stemming from that truth is another truth - making mistakes, typically, is not the end of the world.
Another lesson I learned is - it takes time to see the true beauty of most projects. You don’t see it right away, or even in a day or a month, yet with time and attention the project takes shape and the beauty emerges, full of color and texture.
An additional lesson is - the outcome is totally up to you, meaning it’s color, size, creativity. What you put into it, you get out of it when the project is complete.
One last lesson is - the time and effort you put into it ( or not) will show on the finish project.

Isn’t that life! We will make mistakes, some that can be quite devastating and seem to rock our world, and some that may turn us around and place us on a different path then what we were first traveling Yet most mistakes typically don’t end our world, just alter it in some way. Good and bad. And while we’re living, growing and maturing, it takes time to see the results of our efforts. Yet with diligence and consistency and effort, we will eventually see a finish project that is full of beauty and texture. We get to chose what that looks like mostly, and we determined the time it takes to cultivate our lives. We can stay at the wheel or pull back and take a breather or give up completely. But to reach and see the finish “project” we must stay engaged until the end.

I am so thankful for being taught by my friend how to crochet, and thankful for the life lessons it has revealed to me. Peace and love to all. Stay the coarse and see the beauty you can create in this project we call life! ❤️❤️

Life teaches us so many different lessons! I have found that knitting uses less yarn than crochet, so I like knitting better.
