The Dreaded Bathing Suit Purchase!

Wednesday, May 23, 2018

So, I will be going away to the beach next week for my yearly 4 day vacation and that requires the dreaded bathing suit. In my youth I looked fairly good in a bathing suit. I was a swimmer and on the diving team so I was stocky but firm. I lived in Arena or Speedo bathing suits and it was not uncommon for me to own six or seven suits. Now that I have reached the advanced age of 64, purchasing a suit has become a unlikable task.
Suits use to be demure and cover a great deal of skin. I never owned a two piece suit. Swimsuit manufacturers now design the suit so it is cut up so high on the leg you see every lump or bump. Suits use to be made of cotton, now spandex. I can see the merits of spandex. Yes, it holds you in but I like a softer feel. I had a suit when I was young made by a company called Sea Waves. They were cute, little, cotton rompers.
I came home yesterday after 4 hours of looking for a suit. I have ended up with a swim dress type suit. Now, for a swimmer (and I love to swim) this is not an ideal suit. You like to cut through the water when you swim and when you are in the ocean. You do not want all that extra material floating around. Tankini’s don’t work because they separate from the bottom. What is a woman supposed to do!
I have been trying my hardest to get down in weight but that will still not help the old body that is going into the suit. Where oh where are my cotton romper suits! Where oh where is my old body! If you have the same problem when you go out there looking for a suit – Know that I am standing by your side. You are not alone!

P.S. I have searched everywhere for my suit and I have even contacted Sea Waves. They were very nice and responded back to me within the hour. Yes, they remember the suit but they tell me there is not a great enough demand for that type of suit. I have found some vintage ones on Etsy and Ebay but all in the wrong size.

And YOU are not alone, either! I honestly don't know a single female over the age of 18 who enjoys swim suit shopping. While manufacturers say, "this suit hides a tummy" or "this suit accentuates your bust" or "this suit makes fat thighs look slimmer"-- I suppose I need a suit that does ALL of those things and not just one.

Shopping for a swimsuit is never fun. emoticon One upside to a skirt type suit is the extra drag makes for a harder workout. I hope you have an emoticon time during your vacation! emoticon

Just a thought but you might be able to find your style of suit by typing it into Google.
