Writing my own story, the back story.

Friday, June 29, 2018

I have done the on again, off again Rollercoaster with sparkpeople, weight watchers, DASH, and a bunch of others. Each time I fell off the wagon, starting over was becoming harder and harder. For over a year I have battled with a lack of energy, and by last month I was literally sneaking in two or three cat naps each day. Also over the past year my edema has become problematic. There were so few days where my ankles looked normal. Then I developed a small rash on my calf, and it grew, and grew. As it grew, the swelling in my calf became worse. So that brings me to now. OK lets start with yesterday. I broke down and made a doctors appointment. I had to see the PA because my primary didn't have any openings. So I prepared for the usual routine. I know I'm not the only one who dreads that step onto the doctors scale. That of course leads to the inevitable "Your problem is you are overweight ". Yup, that's been my diagnosis for ever ailment I've experienced in the last thirty years. But not this time. This time I met with the Physician's Assistant. She took one look at my leg and ordered a screening for kidney function. She prescribed me a steroid cream and Lasix. Once the swelling goes down she wants to look more closely at my leg to find the underlying cause. She wants me to keep a food diary to see if my diet is the culprit. Basically she wants to look past the obvious to find the root cause. I finally felt like I was being seen as an individual, not just"the fat girl". So I made a followup appointment. I restarted my sparkpeople program. What better way to track my food anyways. Day one back on has been more about planning and reacquainting myself with the app. I have a strong plan for tomorrow so we shall see.

So happy somebody listened. I would ask for an ultrasound only because I have a history of DVT's - you don't always have pain and redness with them. Best of luck to you!

So glad you made the decisions, getting your leg checked and coming back to Spark. I have found having the backup here is a game changer. And a thumbs up on finding the PA that actually looks past the computer screen showing your weight and dismisses your problems. Keep her close, they are rare these days.
