"Missing" Puzzle Piece -- Found!!

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

Have you ever gone through your life journey thinking that something is missing? Over the last two and a half years I have been having that feeling and could not figure out what it was until recently.

The main thing I had to overcome was many family life changes. The latest one I realized I cannot let these changes derail me. What I mean by derailing is not giving up on exercise and healthy eating but keeping stress at bay and taking care of me emotionally and mentally. What has helped me to cope with the latest change was I did not give up my time to exercise regularly. Exercising actually makes me feel good every time I completed my routine. I felt energetic and was ready to "conquer" whatever came my way.

The other thing was eating healthy. I always (or thought I was) ate healthy (or as healthy as I could) until I went on a vacation in October 2017 to visit family. I actually thought I was gaining weight (like I normally do on vacation) after eating chips & salsa, chips & artichoke dip, chips & whatever came with it when a comment was made by my husband as to how thin I looked. I was very puzzled by his comment. After looking back over the week, I realized I did not have any sweets/desserts. The closest thing I came to any sweet was a frozen chocolate covered banana. That is when I made a choice to cut back on sugar. The trick was convincing my husband not to buy the decadent desserts at the bakery two to three times a week. It took him until after the holidays to stop buying so much baked goods. But it wasn't until July 2018 that I took another step to cutting back on alcohol as well (after all I was already in a regular exercise routine - which was showing progress).

Lastly, I kept reading a lot of articles on exercises and healthy eating and what works and doesn't work until I found something that made sense to me.

Since July, I have been strength training two to three times a week for 30 minutes, doing some type of cardio a minimum of five days a week for 60 minutes, finding sugar free desserts to help with the sweet tooth and indulging only once a week, and keeping to 1 alcohol drink on Fridays and Saturdays. The rest of the week in water and tea with no added sugars.

I can now say since starting this routine with regular exercise and healthier eating I have lost 8 pounds. Honestly speaking, I have finally found the "missing" puzzle piece for me.

My advice to those who are still finding their "missing" puzzle piece, DO NOT GIVE UP! Keep trying because you will come across a routine whether it is exercises or healthy food choices that works for you. It may take longer for some than others. Be patient and persevere! It took me four years to finally find mine!

What do you want for you?

Keep Sparking and have a wonderful day!

I had to limit my food during the day. I eat between breakfast and dinner (normally a 7 or 8 hour period) and do not have anything other than water the rest of the night. I do exercise as well. I finally broke a plateau.

I am so happy for you. You have found what works for you. Keep up the great work. emoticon

Thanks for sharing. It's a good reminder that a "journey" isn't a short trip, but it takes time and we need to figure it out as we go sometimes!

So happy to hear you found that missing piece. For me it occurred when I was stuck on a plateau for a few months. It wasn't until I cut back on sugar, sweets and "hidden sugars" added to food, that it became apparent to me. I also reduced my consumption of certain fruits and vegetables with high sugar content. Like you sugar was my missing piece too. Reducing sugars from my diet allowed me to break through the plateau and reach my goal weight. While I still have a raging sweet tooth, I limit my intake and consider eating sweets, including certain fruits & veggies, as a special occasion. Keep on Sparking.
