Some Lessons I've Learned

This past Saturday our younger son got married. This was a very, very happy day for us at many levels. His first wife had died after a long illness when he was only in his mid 30's. We worried about him for years because of the stress he was going through. His new wife had been his best friend in high school and even played music at his first wedding. How surprising life can be. We have loved her for years and are very happy. They reconnected and had not dated long before her 10-year-old son asked our son to be his dad. Of course, his mom was mortified, but it does create a funny memory.
There are many lessons that I have learned through all this. First, don't stress and try to plan out the future. What happens is often much better than anything you could have planned. Second, our new grandson taught us that you should not be afraid to come out and say what you really want. He did not influence any decisions, but he made their decision to get married seem really right. Third, cherish your friendships, even when your lives take different turns and you don't cross paths any more. Good people belong in our hearts forever.
