The car went to the salvage yard.

Wednesday, October 24, 2018

We talked to the junk dealer yesterday. Overnight, a man from the town where I went to high school. posted about a business here that does transmission work. We called them this morning and left a message on their answering machine, but they never called back.

The driver of the rollback called us this morning and we met him at the dealership. He loaded the car and we filled out paperwork. We went to the DMV and turned in the tags and then went to our insurance company. Our car insurance will go up because we lost the discount for having multiple vehicles.

I am tired tonight due to the stress of all of this. My 1995 Dodge Caravan is still running, but we junked a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander today. My van does not have automatic windows or doors, but it still runs. The paint is off the hood and top of the vehicle. We don't have a carport or a garage. I just pray that it keeps going until we can find another vehicle.

You have had a very stressful week. I hope you can find a good reliable vehicle soon for a price you can afford. My car is a 2003 Ford Focus Wagon. I bought it new for $15,000. I have been fortunate. Less than $2000 in maintenance and repairs (including 2 sets of tires for totaling $800 of it.) Recently the gas, speedometer gauges would work intermittently. They could not find the problem. So my son suggested a devise that attaches in the cigarette lighter which can tell me the speed I am driving. My mileage gauge is working so I use that to determine when to add gas. These past two months this has worked quite well. Since it refuses to act up at the dealership for them to find the problem, this is working for me. My air conditioning died 2 years ago but I refused to put $2500 into a new one since my car is so old. I drove for 20 years without air conditioning--I can and have done it again. No problem. It only has 59,000 miles on it. I keep it in the garage so the body is in good shape. I plan to keep using it until 100,000 miles or repairs are too large or expensive to make it worth it.
