The realtor's visit today.

Monday, November 05, 2018

The realtor came for a visit today. We went to Ohio Saturday and came home last night. We got home after 2 AM. We have decided to move to Ohio. There is no state income tax there on Social Security.

We owe about $88,000 on this house. We paid $160,000 for it in 2008. The realtor said she will list it for $119,900, so we lose $40,100 right off the bat. She told me what she wants done and will be back December 3 to see how we're doing. Hubby is of no help at all.

I will have to rent a storage facility to put stuff in. Basically, she wants empty rooms and our stuff out. I doubt we will have much money left for a down payment on our next house.

I am surprised they want the house empty.

I am surprised your realtor wanted to show an empty house. Normally the realtors here want to have furniture in the homes. If people's furniture is not very nice looking they will rent furniture for staging to sell the house for more. I have never moved since I moved into my house that was built in 1963. I am the only owner and that's for 55 years and I lived next door where my parents lived for 20 years.
When my mother had a rotator cuff injury, it took her over a year. They couldn't do surgery since she was 85.
Blessings to you and I hope all goes well for you. emoticon

My husband had rotator cuff surgery July 25 and hasn't been cleared to use that arm. He and our son are leaving for Wyoming on November 15, so he won't be here to help with anything.

The bottom dropped out of the housing market shortly after we bought this house. I am looking at old houses (some pre-WWII) and fixer-uppers to find something we can afford even if we get the realtor's price for this house. It doesn't seem fair. Our house was built in 1990.

Huh, my son has convinced me to go look at a few rental-house prospects here in the DFW area, and we walked into all of them "as is" - fully furnished when the owners were still in residence, and a couple of vacant properties which were serious fixer-uppers.
Clearing out your house sounds completely unreasonable.
Good luck! (& what do you mean, "Hubby is of no help"?)

Oh, my goodness. That is a big drop. How much is the realtor charging?

Do you have a garage? You could put extra boxes in there.

Do what you can do, don't push yourself to far.

I can't believe that you would have to empty your furniture and put it in storage! We didn't have to do that. But there are so many things that realtors do now. ***SIGH***
