Only three left!

Friday, December 28, 2018

Sounds like some kind of a sale is going on... emoticon !!??!! Not quite. I'm feeling just a tad bit sentimental to think there are only 3/365 left of 2018. So am putting them to good use.

Technically, I planned the menu for my MEAL PLAN last night but am making it today's accomplishment... it's a plan within my overall plan! My menu is planned for the next week, the recipes are gathered, and the shopping is done! Woo Hoo!

So how did this happen?? Well, last night I was binge watching Season Two of GOT (Game of Thrones) in an effort to review the series before the final season arrives this spring. I generally don't watch a great deal of television so this is a holiday splurge. Of course, I also knit so I feel quasi-productive. Back to meal planning... my mind must have wandered a bit even though I was multi-tasking. Was going to visit Mom today and decided I really should make up a grocery list and hit the store even though it meant facing a Friday frenzy of shoppers. Dealing with Friday shopping seemed to be the lesser evil than weekend shopping prior to yet another holiday.

In order to bring some focus to the shopping list, I shut off the television and fired up the laptop. Whenever a recipe catches my attention and meets my criteria, I copy it into one of several documents in a folder called RECIPES (clever, huh.) So I browsed through my docs and identified a dozen or more recipes which fit one of the three main meals of the day (in my world, snacks don't require recipes.) From recipes to grocery list and - voila - a meal plan that covers the next seven days! I'm actually looking forward to getting the remaining holiday leftovers out of the way as my healthier resolutions and recipes kick in for 2019. I don't think much of the "before" foods will still be around by New Year's morning but anything that doesn't pass my healthy/healthier criteria goes out the door.

Great idea. I too have a folder for "recipes", so far I haven't made any of the recipes though lol.

Good planning! I've got exercise on the menu.
    Saw your comment.
I'm not much for watching "dark" movies, I get enough bad vibes reading the news!
Saw Bohemian Rhapsody, it was fun.

I decided this year at DH's brothers we'll have good steak and lobster! I bought, they'll cook. We take turns at each other's houses trying to keep each other awake, now about 10 years running. Intermittent babysitting over the years also for the 4 of us.

I have been meal planning for awhile now and I absolutely love it. We rarely actually stick to the plan - there's always the off day where I don't feel like cooking or something else comes along that sounds like a better idea, but I have all the ingredients I need and that one missed meal just goes onto next week's meal plan. I also find that with just the two of us there is almost always more left overs than I'd anticipated and I rarely include those in my plan.

You're one task ahead of me! I probably won't get to meal planning until Sunday but then it will be done for awhile!

Thanks for the spark goodie and your comment on my page. And thanks for letting me know about your Door County Coffee gifts. I just can't say enough good things about that company. Just last week my husband opened his recent espresso purchase and the beans were kind of crumbly. We contacted them and after sending a photo so they could see we had a new package of coffee overnight!

Happy New Year to you! And the boys too.
