I am grateful for AAUW and all the wonderful work they do for women and girls too!

I would really like to see more women in physical science. There have been so many wonderful young women making their way through our local community college, transferring to university, and entering the workforce in STEM majors. I am so proud of them.

As a young teen, I specifically remember being corrected by my counselor. He had asked what I was interested in pursuing as a career. I told him that I would like to be a doctor. He said, "No. You mean a nurse." To which I responded, "No. I mean a doctor." He never discussed my career aspirations with me again.

As a high school student all of the guys in the mathematics classes I was in were directed to our local community college for physics. Not only was I not encouraged to do that too, the option was not even mentioned. I was ignorant. No college graduates in my family. It was not until I reached middle age that I returned to college and earned my degree in physics. So, yeah. This is personal for me.

I think it's so important to spend a few minutes thinking about all the things we have to be grateful for.
