Instant Pot 21 Flat Belly menu and goal reached!
Saturday, May 11, 2019
I have been eyeing an instant pot for about a year. My daughter informed me she was taking the rice cooker to college so I knew I wanted to replace that and having less appliances sounds appealing. With a sale and coupon at Costco.com I decided I would take the plunge and buy an instant pot. The next day my husband forwarded an email he got about a 21 day instant pot flat belly menu plan and recipe book. I asked if he was ready to do that with me, so we agreed to try it together to help us eat healthy during a season of transition and make the most of our new purchase.
Though the recipe book has some flaws with missing important details here and there, it has been helpful overall and we are reaching our goals. We have used the instant pot everyday at least once a day the past 3 weeks sometimes more. I lost over 5 pounds and my husband lost over 10 pounds. Not sure how easy it will be to keep it off but an encouraging start during a rather busy season. If we hadn't done it I'm sure we would have gained instead.
The menu plan is very healthy and balanced with a daily 1,400 calorie menu, 3 meals and 3 snack options daily. Low sugar, healthy carbs, tons of fruits and veggies, and even some dark chocolate. The menu is made for 1 person so modifying for 2 and dinner with the whole family was a little challenging as it was not clear how to modify. The first day my husband learned what "hangry" is since he didn't plan his snacks during the day and we did add some extras for him since he needed a higher calorie range. We had a nice rotation of proteins with eggs, hummus, nuts, legumes, chicken, beef, cod, salmon and shrimp. The shopping list and weekly prep looks helpful but a few details got dropped and even in the daily menu/recipe sections cooked food is inserted but not informed how they plan on you cooking it. The food is tasty with plenty of seasonings. My husband even liked the lentil soup and thinks we should prepare it again. Like most healthy meal plans preparation takes time with plenty of shopping, chopping and cooking. I can't say the instant pot is faster but it does keep your cooking dishes down to mostly just the pot. I might try it again this summer when it is just me.
With my lost weight I have reached a goal so finally used my "DressBarn" gift cards from 2 Christmas ago. I found a lovely dress that I can wear for Mother's Day, DD graduation, and 2 wedding this next month. Also it was BOGO 75% off and $5 of signing up for text notices so bought a nice top with only $3 out of my pocket. I'll try to take pictures when I wear them and let you see.
