Gone Again

Wednesday, May 15, 2019

The sun . When I set out today for my perio cleaning it was brilliant, warm, and so pretty with all the many kinds of trees in bloom. Every shade of green, magnolia in full bloom, and even the prospect of a root planing did not bring me down. Though many would dispute it, bus service to the subway system was on time and No complaints from me. Our city is big , grey, overbuilt and seemingly always under construction. This provincial prime minister and his crew have handed down far too many laws ... suddenly and so many affecting this urban mecca of Ontario. The latest is a radical change to the heritage status for buildings, I see as a bid to tear down older buildings to build mega high rises in their stead. Already downtown is overbuilt with city canyons where the wind howls . This is a mistake, and this place is showing signs of stress. On us, the citizens, on us when we drive the clogged streets, on the air, on the landscape and very last, the aesthetics I don’t like it. At all. So, I took transit today to my dental appointment because parking could cost between 15 and 30 dollars if I have lunch or want to do a bit of shopping. This way I am free. I am finished my sushi lunch special ( brown rice avo and salmon, and will head out now - walking as far as I can. Maybe I can get a photo of trees in bloom. Then it’s home to clear up for. a busy two days, medical appointments for each of us for Thursday and Friday. With any luck I will get to the gym Friday after I get my knee checked and then it’s a long weekend. Maybe walks, maybe friends for Saturday evening, and maybe more sun. It’s overdue. I hope spring has landed your way and that the flooded areas can dry out. Off to walk the city.

Yeah, in the last couple of weeks, we’ve had scattered warm to hot days, some brisk days requiring a light jacket, and lots of rain days. Today was about 72, mild wind, & scattered clouds. The 1 pm walk with the pups great - when the clouds cleared up briefly, I was saying, “come on, clouds!”

Why do public officials want to tear down classic building & build wind tunnels?

Sounds like a great day. I love public transit in big cities and prefer it to driving. I agree that many cities are becoming overbuilt behemoths. Not good for humanity or the planet. I hope you enjoyed it! We're having a bout of unseasonable rain - over 2" yesterday. It's supposed to be partly-sunny tomorrow for our graduation ceremony (outside, of course). More rain coming today.

Change isn’t always what is needed, nor is excessive growth. So many add ons without consideration to the future, the BIG picture...sigh. Your city is not unique...Phoenix is already considered to be “uninhabitable” in the not too distant future. More sighs! As for this blasted weather, rain, rain, go away. You be the sunshine, sweet friend.

It is sad when the beauty of old architecture is mixed and redevelopment for $$$$$ is okay. Saw that happen where I lived, too. Fortunately, where I live now, is very rural all around. I love it.

Wishing you continued sunshine! We've had some, but miss it when it's not around.

I agree about the provincial government. Hate what they are doing to education too.

In the UK it is against the law to cut down trees with bird nests in them, however apparently, there are currently trees being cut down in my old neighbourhood. So sad, reading about a local person hearing no birdsong today!

City streets are like wind tunnels whipping detritus through the air like shrapnel We are sunny and into the 90's today.
