[article] How To Get Stronger After Age 50
Wednesday, May 15, 2019
I stumbled across this article, which I found so interesting that I wanted to post it here for future reference:
Lately, I've had to re-adjust my workout routine to my ever changing work schedule. I decided to temporarily cancel my membership to my beloved CrossFit gym near my home because I found it harder and harder to be able to make it to the classes. So... I am doing workouts from home right now, as well as getting more into running when I get a chance. Change is good, right?
Anyway, I found this article inspiring because I can incorporate more bodyweight exercise into my regimen for strength training. I have a limited set of weights (a barbell and a few dumbbells), a medicine ball, and some resistance bands. I recently bought a pull-up and dip tower, so I can keep practicing my upper body strength training (and right now, am really in need of improvement!).
I also see from the article that I'll need to dedicate more time for warming up, spend more actual time with training, and also take more down time to recover.
Also- it mentioned how hard it is to get back into fitness when you fall back... this definitely happened to me. I'm on the rebound!!
Anyway, even if you are not 50 or older, this article is really good because in general, we all need to be mindful of our bones and muscles and strength training is a lifelong passion to keep up with.
